22 week recap

Week 22 came and went pretty quickly, but our biggest announcement is that "gummi bear" has been given a real name: Jackson Thomas Rae.

The name Jackson has been on our mind for the last several weeks and Thomas happens to be Sean's younger brother's middle name. We really love the name, so hopefully it suits him well!

On Tuesday (1/27/09) I went in for a quick re-check ultrasound. As I mentioned in my last post, the tech didn't get a picture of his stomach (the actual organ) so I had to go back. It was a small inconveniece for the sweet reward of getting to see our little guy on the screen again. Everything looks normal and he had a good heart rate as well. I asked for another profile picture and a shot of his feet but he (Jackson) wouldn't really co-operate. He was kicking and punching and moving all over the place! I think he was probably excited about the breakfast I'd just eaten. :)

Today (1/28/09) we went in for our pre-natal visit and everything seems to be going just fine. We heard the heart beat and the doctor measured my belly and said I'm growing right on schedule. I've gained 12 pounds so far and the nurse said that was really good too!

As always, here is the weekly picture of my growing belly. My skin is now stretching tighter across my bellybutton which is making it flatten out. It's a really minor detail, but when you don't recognize your own bellybutton you feel pretty weird! Sean keeps saying, just wait until it pops out in the other direction!

Can't wait to meet you Jackson! Keep on growing!

21 weeks

Just finished up 21 weeks and I'm feeling large and in charge.
Not a whole lot of updates since yesterday's big news but I have been having more weird cravings lately. Tonight's dinner consisted of apples, cheese slices, vanilla ice cream, and a cherry coke. Don't worry, I usually eat pretty balanced meals and I'm taking my vitamins.
Sean went into the grocery store with a little bit of a puzzled look on his face after I gave him my list, but was ever so careful to pick up the Fuji apples (not Braeburn!) I love you ;)
Today I brought pictures of the ultrasound in to work! I felt like my mom, who carries around a "brag book" of pictures of Kristine and I everywhere she goes. Anyhow, I told everyone hovering around that we are having a boy and one of my co-workers was looking at the profile picture and said, "Wow that's a big boy!" I laughed and said, "No, that's actually his leg!"
I have another ultrasound appointment next week since the tech forgot to take images of the baby's stomach area yesterday. I don't mind so much because I'll get to see the little guy again! Over the next couple weeks we just have some regular checkups, but I'll update more with any new milestones and pictures of my growing baby bump!

It's a boy!!!

I can't believe it! Sean and I got to see our baby on the ultrasound tonight and we found out that we are having a boy!! The ultrasound tech said there was no doubt about it (see picture below)

It was just great to see him moving around and even wiggling his toes. I think the profile of him looks so handsome!

I didn't share this in my last blog, but when I felt the first big kick, the first thing that popped into my mind was, "You're a boy!" Not sure why, but I guess I was thinking that only a little boy would kick me twice in a row in the bladder.

I'm just so happy I can't contain myself right now! Now to decide on a name... :)

Baby boy!

I love you already!

First big kick

Last night I was laying down finishing up the book Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. The book is so hilarious that I was laughing out loud, which must have triggered little gummi to start kicking me! I felt the first kick low on my belly so I put my hand there and then felt it again! Such an amazing feeling... gave me the chills!

As soon as Sean got back from walking Josie I had him put his hand on my belly to try and feel it. We sat there with our eyes closed anticipating another movement, and of course as soon as he lifted his hand it kicked again! For the next half hour I could feel the baby moving around and bumping into me. He or she must be in there practicing karate or gymnastics.

Can't wait to feel you kick again! :)

Back rub please!

I just finished up 20 weeks. I am half way there! Here is a picture of my progress:

The big news for the week is that I think I felt the baby move. I've had so much anticipation and even a little anxiety surrounding this event. I was laying in bed over the weekend and I had my hand on my stomach feeling my own heartbeat and then all of a sudden I felt a little flutter. It was kind of like a little fish swimming by. Since then I've felt it a few more times, but I can't wait until I get the first big kick!

The other great news for the week is that Sean gives awesome backrubs. He's been keeping this great talent a secret from me!

Well this is all for now, I'll have more news on Monday when we get the results of our ultrasound!

19 week recap

I'm stranded at home again today, this time due to major flooding in the valley. Our town is now an island with all roads leading to water. I'm pretty glad I'm having a summer baby since there shouldn't be any threat of floods by then and the road to the hospital won't be underwater.

So as for baby updates, I'm just growing and growing right now. (Click on the picture above and you can see the changes from week to week) I can feel my belly move when I walk and getting up from a sitting position is a little more challenging than usual. I can just imagine myself a few weeks from now getting stuck on the floor at the grocery store while bending down to grab a jar of pickles off the bottom shelf! And speaking of pickles, they are on the top of my list of "pregnancy cravings" shortly followed by ice cream, fruit, and ice water.

On a frustrating note, I've been having more back/hip pain and trouble sleeping. I've been building a small fort of pillows each night to plop onto but some nights it's just impossible to get comfortable!
Sean and I are getting really excited for our next appointment (Jan.19th) so we can finally see our baby and hopefully find out if it's a boy or girl!

Here's a cute picture of Sean giving Josie a bath after getting filthy outside. Only a few more months and it won't be scared Josie getting lathered up, but a little human baby! :)

That's all the news for now, but I'm sure I'll be posting again pretty soon!
